Prof. Jacek Purchla awarded the title Lesser Poland’s Person of the Year (Małopolanin roku) 2016.

Prof. Jacek Purchla has been awarded the title Lesser Poland’s Person of the Year (Małopolanin roku) 2016. The award is given by the the Association of Villages and Counties of Lesser Poland (Stowarzyszenie Gmin i Powiatów Małopolski).

Prof. dr hab. Jacek Purchla - Full Professor in Humanities; a member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (Polska Akademia Umiejętności), the head of the Department of Economic and Social History and the head of the UNESCO Chair of Cultural Heritage and Urban Studies at the Krakow University of Economics, also the head of the Centre for European Heritage at the Institute of European Studies of the Jagiellonian University. His areas of research are urban development, social history and art history of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as the theory and protection of cultural heritage. The author of over four hundred scientific papers and many books. From 1990 to 1991 a vice-president of Kraków. Since 1991 the organiser and director of the International Cultural Centre in Krakow. A titular member and vice-president of the Comité international d’histoire de l’art (CIHA), a member of numerous organisations and associations, including: the Europa Nostra Council in Hague, the Art Studies Art Committee at the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). Since 2000 the chair of the Minister of Culture’s Monument Preservation Council.
