The Dean’s Award for the Best BA Thesis is the distinction awarded to the authors of the best master's and bachelor's theses prepared within all fields of study at the Faculty. We are pleased to announce that our graduate – Olivia Copeland – became one of them.

Her thesis: Dead in the Water: Obstacles in Resolving Seafarer Abandonment has been recognized for the author’s innovative approach, impressive research and vast knowledge. Olivia’s work, written under the supervision of Dr. Małgorzata Kołaczek, explores what seafarer abandonment is and more importantly how can it be mitigated. Her research addresses the advantages and disadvantages of maritime policy and helps to determine whether it is sufficient to resolve the problem.

Upon graduating IRAS, Olivia became a law student at the University of Glasgow. She hopes to continue on her path to bring justice to underreported areas.
